The iMac 24” “M1” was released in 2021 and marked the return of the 24” form factor iMac 12 years after the last 24” iMac was launched. In addition to the returning form factor Apple completely redesigned the look of the iMac range, moving away from the more tapered edge style design to a flatter curved design similar to that of the iPhone and iPad models at the time, available in Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Silver and Yellow finishes. The radical redesign was made possible by Apples custom SoC and meant that the iMac 24” is only 11.5mm thick and weighs in at under 5KG. The iMac 24” was Apples first generation of iMac to use Apples custom build “M1” SoC. The iMac 24” M1 processor consists of a 8-core CPU, 7-core GPU (configurable to an 8-core GPU) and a 16-core Neural engine. The 8-core CPU is made up of 4 high-performance 3.2GHz (Firestorm) cores and 4 high-efficiency 2.1GHz (Icestorm) cores. The high-performance cores have 192KB of L1 instruction cache and 128KB of L1 data cache per core along with a shared 12MB of L2 cache, the high-efficiency cores have 128KB of L1 instruction cache and 64KB of data cache per core, along with a shared 4MB of L2 cache. The M1 chip can be configured with 8GB of 16GB of high-performance unified memory which is integrated into the SoC which allows the entire system to take advantage of the system memory. The M1 chip also has the SSD controller, image signal processor, encode/decode engines, Thunderbolt/USB 4 controller and Gen 4 PCI express built into the processor.

The iMac 24” M1 was shipped with 256GB of embedded NVMe storage upgradable to 512GB, 1TB or 2TB at the time of purchase and a built-in 1080p FaceTime HD camera. The iMac 24” M1 came in two models a “2-port” and “4-port” model. The “2-port” model had just two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports where as the “4-port” has both two Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports and two USB 3 ports. This was Apples first desktop machine to use a MagSafe connection for the power adapter. The iMac 24” M1 had configurable Gigabit Ethernet which was moved from the machine and build into the external power adapter. The iMac 24” M1 was shipped with WiFi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.0. The iMac 24” M1 can support one 6k display at ‘6016 by 3384’ pixels at 60Hz via Thunderbolt.
